I wrote a blog post a while back about the “Junior Ranger Badges” National Parks & Monuments in the USA have on offer, for children of all ages (yep, so that includes us adults too). In return for filling out a quiz booklet at each park, you receive a badge to keep as a souvenir. Like I said in the post linked above, it’s not for everyone, but I jumped at the opportunity for a free souvenir.
Anyway, whilst in Canada I noticed there was similar scheme on offer. Hell to the yeah. Their version is called “Xplorers” and instead of badges, you receive dog tags with the name of each location printed on them.
I guess it depends what appeals to you, but for the sake of filling in a kids activity book – it’s a free souvenir worth having. I managed to collect 8 of these during my two weeks in Canada. And you can bet I wore them with pride.
If you’re heading Canada way anytime soon, check out the Parks Canada website to see where you can pick up these gems whilst on the road.
