In case I wasn’t already completely in love with Banff National Park, there was one more experience on my itinerary that was bound to seal the deal; a via ferrata. Now, if you’re like me, you may have no idea what that is. I definitely didn’t at first. But, as always, I did a little research in the form of instagram and blog posts, until I’d read up enough about other people’s experiences and was fully prepared.
For those of you who still don’t know what a via ferrata is, it’s a form of rock climbing originating from Europe, where the climber uses a series of metal rungs in the mountain face to aid their climb. Kinda snazzy, huh? It makes for an easier ascent and a very enjoyable experience!
In Banff, I climbed Mount Nourquay with a company called Banff Tours (you can find their website here) and did a trail that took just over four hours. The climb itself was slightly strenuous in some areas, but you definitely don’t have to be a fitness fanatic to take on a via ferrata! This excursion was by far one of my favourite things I did whilst in Canada and I, hand on heart, would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.
Have you ever completed a via ferrata? If so, where did you do one? I’d love to know!
Thanks for reading 🙂
