Taylor Swift’s 1989 World Tour – Round Two: London

4am.  That’s how early I left for London on Saturday 27th June.

The show was part of the ‘British Summer Time’ festival so it was being held outside, in Hyde Park.  When I arrived there were already at least thirty people sat inside the barriers.  There were so many people who I’d never met before but I’d been friends with online for ages so it was great to be able to hug everyone and actually have a face to face conversation.

In-between trips to the toilet me and Alice heard Taylor’s band start sound checking and – unfortunately for everyone else who happened to be walking through Hyde Park and who wasn’t a Taylor Swift fan – we sang along as loudly and obnoxiously as we could.

At around 2:15pm they FINALLY decided to open the gates and we rushed to get through security, hoping the didn’t find the packet of biscuits and Haribo I’d hidden at the bottom of my bag.  We ran through several gates, collecting a paper wristband from one and a light up one from another, trying to juggle my bags and figure out where the hell to go at the same time.  The security kept yelling, warning us that if anyone ran we’d be forced to go back to the start gate, so I half galloped and half skipped towards the main stage.

I’d never seen so much empty space at a barrier and was faced with the decision of main stage or b-stage … I decided b-stage (which turned out to be such a good choice).

After another hour of waiting, half hiding from the sun as we sat behind the barrier, the support acts came on.  They consisted of Rae Morris, Vance Joy, John Newman and Ellie Goulding.  I don’t think I would have survived if it wasn’t for the staff on the inside of the barrier handing out plastic cups of water.  What a blessing.

At 8pm, sixteen hours later, and actually half an hour early, the sound of ‘Welcome To New York’ vibrated across the whole of Hyde Park … Taylor Swift had taken the stage.

Taylor did an acoustic version of her song ‘You Are In Love’ whilst she was lifted above the crowd and it was absolutely breath taking because she got the whole crowd – yes, all 75,000 of us – to sing the lyrics back to her.

The next thing that happened was probably the greatest moment in my entire life.  During her song ‘Style‘, Taylor decided to bring out some surprise guests; Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Serena Williams, Martha Hunt, Karlie Kloss and Cara Delevingne.

With a red raw throat from screaming the show continued with my favourites the ‘Enchanted/Wildest Dreams’ mash up, ‘Out of The Woods’ and ‘Shake It Off’

And at 11:30pm, my legs achy, my voice lost and my sign hanging on its last legs, we found our way back to the car and I slept all the way home.  BEST.  NIGHT.  EVER.
